An introduction to trauma informed tools and debunking the myths around what trauma is and who it happens to.
This course will cover:
The myths around the definition of ‘trauma’
Who is ‘traumatised, trauma responses
The difference between acute, chronic and complex trauma
Stress and trauma - The nervous system, poly-vagal theory
What’s happening in the brain, what’s stored in the body
The yoga therapist and fear of retraumatising, triggering and flashbacks as they arise in session work
What is trauma-informed language and how do we know?
What you need to know about specialising in trauma support and PTSD in yoga therapy
The practice of collaborative facilitation, radical ongoing consent, body-based disconnection, trauma-inclusive instruction, and nervous system soothing. You'll learn about the defining elements, benefits, and applications of yoga in a therapeutic setting.
Alex Bauermeister is an ever-learning awareness and embodiment enthusiast with a focus on therapeutic and nervous-system-responsive yoga. She strives to hold safer space for people from diverse backgrounds and experiences, and for those who don't necessarily have positive associations with yoga and/or therapy.
Alex draws on her experiences in the nonprofit and social change sphere to help yoga leaders and organizations get more aligned with the core values of yoga and social justice, including healing-centered, trauma-inclusive, and anti-oppressive practices. She provides direct consultation and organisational support to yoga studios, and provides mentorship to yoga professionals.
